It's All About Rich Moments, Enjoying Prettiness Indoors or Outdoors

Dear Jan, I’m so glad you posted about printed sofas. First of all, every designer seems to say–you should do a neutral.ll..not just neutral but a boring neutral for your sofas and upholstered pieces. Sometimes, I think they look like big hay-bales of dead grass, or a mound of slightly grayed sheets. I upgraded my sofa purchases to an XXX fabric which was just a bit cheaper than ZZZ with A being the cheapest. Twenty-five years later the Morris tapestry is still beautiful..though we are finally sick of it and the couches have been rebuilt once underneath. These are couches in our ONLY living room for 22 of those 25 years. Besides wearing well, the fabric is stain-proof, or stains simply disappeared into the pattern. I I cringe when thinking of dogs, cats, kids, babies, spilled drinks, popcorn butter on white couches. A wonderful look but REALLY? You live with that? is always my thought.

So thanks for reaffirming the printed couch question, YES, I will always have a print or woven pattern on my couches. And in a small room, it is simply cozy! Grins, Sandi

Oh Sandy, I do hear you. I don’t want to have to baby sit my sofa. I want my family to relax on it and me not have to worry about it. I think the solid color sofas can work well when you have a lot of pattern in a room. But it needs to be a color you love. It should be a carefree sofa that you know will stand up to the test of time. I do think we need more choices in sofas. Everywhere I turn is the same thing over and over. It’s time to turn the page.

All of the sofas are nice. I prefer a woven pattern on the sofa, coordinated with beautifully flowered drapes. This allows me to use coordinating fabrics on pillows and accessories. I’m not a fan of overdoing the number of prints and colors, which can seem very frazzled and too busy!

Isn’t it great we all have different opinions on what we love! I had solid sofas in blue at one time and it drove me crazy that they had no pattern. I was constantly placing pillows and throws on them to liven them up. But they weren’t the right shade of blue and I do think if they had been I would have felt different about them.
